Children`s process of receiving their mother`s scolding utterances
Kim Na-Young

Abstract
The main purpose of this study is to clarify how the children response to and receive different scolding utterances of their mothers. The subjects were 161 3rd and 5th grade in elementary school.
The major findings of this study were as follows:
(1) The children showed different responses depending on the types of mother¢¥s scolding utterances. Also the children of 3rd grade showed different reaction from that of 5th grade children.
(2) The type of mother¢¥s scolding utterances did not influence how the children appraise their own activity for which they were scold by their mothers. The children, however, inferred that their mothers would evaluate their activities very badly when they scold children by direct instruction, paradoxal instruction or self-conceit impairment.
(3) 3rd grade children appraised their mothers highly when mothers scold them by direct instructions, while the 5th grade children appraised their mothers highly when mothers scold them by Indirect instruction.
